Scented Kool-Aid paint

We have been into doing sensory things with smell. Who doesn't like the smell of kool-aid? So I wanted to put together a new paint so I mixed flour, baby oil, kool-aid and water.

We got a fun paint that smelled great!! When "J" was painting he said,"mom, this paint smells the best."

Below is what we mixed to get our paint. You can play around and add alittle more of each, but not too much flour or it will be thick. Also, you don't have to use all the whole kool-aid packet, I used couple sprinkles.

We used some for our bath paints and some to make this paint.

Turtle out of coffee filter

"J" love to do arts and crafts, so today we made a sea turtle with a coffee filter. We did this craft cause we have been talking about different animals that live in the sea, since we are leaving to go to take a trip to go Whale watching.

This is a simple, but fun craft. We added alittle sand at the bottom to give it an extra sea look like the beach.

Materials:
Construction paper
Coffee filter
Glue
Sand

Recycled Art – Sculptures from Throw Away Plastic Toys

Designer Robert Bradford, our own talented childish older artist, produces their life-size and heroic sculptures of human beings and creatures coming via throw away plastic-type things, mostly toys but in addition some various different multi-colored plastic bits and pieces, for example combs and control keys, brushes and also parts of clothing pegs.

Don't bin it, eat it!

My gran would have been astonished by the amount of perfectly good food that the average British family throws away these days (it amounts to 7.2 million tonnes of food and drink a year). Some of it's because shoppers don't make lists and buy too much, some is because consumers don't understand what is or isn't safe to eat, and some of it is because people don't know what to make with it. All of this food waste isn't just a waste of your housekeeping money; it costs a lot of money to dispose of it - £12bn a year - that we pay for through our council taxes.

In this video, two Birmingham chefs show what they can do with some vegetables that fussy shoppers would reject. For more ideas, go to the Love Food, Hate Waste website. If you want to be really thrifty, look for the battered-looking produce that's going cheap at the end of any market day, and buy yourself some bargains to make cheap and easy meals.

Scented Bubble Art and Fun

It was a nice day out and we were enjoying the time on the deck so we took out the bubbles. The kids love to pop them and chase after them.

Today "J" added some kool-aid to them to make them scented and colored. It was hard to see the color unless you blew the bubbles on the paper.

You could smell the kool-aid really well from the blue bubbles. Then after "J" made the pretty art, he poured the bubbles into his bubble machine and that was fun!!

Materials:
Bubbles
Kool-aid
Paper (If you want to make a pretty picture)

Glowing salt sand

We saw this glow in the dark Crayola set at the store the other day and "J" wanted to get it, it was on clearance for $4.00 so I said ok we can try it.

So we took out the set and it didn't work and he was so upset. So Mom had to think of something quick to get the 4 yr old from crying, he was so upset.

So I grabbed the highlighters from the craft area and mixed a couple drops with salt. WOW!! Mom got it to work and we had glowing sand under the black light.

Thanks to Train up a Child for the tip that highlighters is how you make glowing stuff under the black light.

Had to laugh "J" said, "mom you are the bomb, you did magic." Gotta love kids and the things they come up with.

Materials:
Salt
Highlighters(Yellow, Orange, and Pink work the best)

Very inexpensive $.40 for 26oz of salt and $1.00 for pack of 3 markers at Dollar store. I got my highlighters at Office Depot this week, on sale for $.50 for 3 markers.

Easy to make: Pour salt in a container then take inside of highlight out of the marker. I got it alittle wet then squeezed to get couple drops on the salt and mixed it up. if you have neon paints you can mix them in instead of a highlighter if you want to color more vibrant.
